Professional Profile
Neil qualified as a doctor from King’s College London in 1998 and was appointed a consultant surgeon in 2014. Neil is a highly productive hard working surgeon. His main interest lies in robotic and laparoscopic (keyhole) colorectal cancer surgery. Patients who have laparoscopic, rather than open surgery tend to have faster recovery times and less pain. Robotic surgery is a new technically advanced approach to colorectal cancer which can offer a number of important benefits to patients.
In addition to laparoscopic surgery he has extensive experience of diseases of the anus including ultrasound guided treatment of haemorrhoids (THD), management of complex fistula disease including the use of fistula plugs and pilonidal sinus surgery. He manages the surgical diagnosis and surgical problems associated with inflammatory bowel disease and works closely with the gastroenterologists to provide a joined up approach.
Neil is a JAG accredited endoscopist and is able to perform both upper and lower GI endoscopy (OGD and colonoscopy). Neil’s general surgical practice includes the management of hernias and gallstones (laparoscopic cholecystectomy).
He is the Clinical Director of Emergency Surgery at Medway Maritime Trust, where he has strived hard to improve the provision of surgical services to the local population. Neil is empathetic and believes in patient-centred care. He is passionate about making healthcare more open and accessible. He has excellent communication skills and explains procedures clearly and is always open to answering questions from patients and their families.
