Arthrosamid is a treatment designed for those suffering from osteoarthritis, specifically arthritis in the knee. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease where the cartilage has broken down, leading to pain and stiffness.

The treatment involves an ultrasound-guided injection directly into the affected joint. This injection is made from non-biodegradable hydrogel, which cushions the joint and provides pain relief. Patients often experience decreased pain levels within just four weeks, allowing for improved mobility and quality of life.

Why choose an Arthrosamid Injection?

This treatment is particularly beneficial for individuals who have not found sufficient relief from other therapies, such as medications or physical therapy. Arthrosamid offers a minimally invasive alternative, making it an attractive option for those seeking pain relief without the risks and recovery time associated with surgery.

At KIMS Hospital, our dedicated team of healthcare professionals is committed to delivering exceptional care to our patients. With the support of our consultants and state-of-the-art facilities, we strive to provide the highest quality of healthcare to the people of Kent.

Arthrosamid FAQs

Can I have an Arthrosamid injection in any other joints?

No. This type of injection is only available to patients for knee arthritis.

Can I receive another treatment if the effect of the first treatment wears off?

In clinical studies Arthrosamid pain improvement is maintained up to 3 years after a single injection.  Whilst trials have not been conducted to show treatment effect, future treatments with Arthrosamid are not contraindicated and can be discussed with your doctor or physician.

After six months it is possible to get the injection again, however clinical studies have demonstrated patients to maintain a significant, long-lasting reduction in knee Osteoarthritis pain even three years post-treatment.

How does Arthrosamid differ from steroid injections?

Arthrosamid differs from traditional pain relieving injections, such as a corticosteroid injection, by permanently combining with the tissue lining in your knee joint, thickening it to provide a barrier. It’s this unique characteristic that provides a significant reduction in your osteoarthritis pain over a longer period with one single treatment.

Corticosteroids offer a shorter term pain relief by reducing inflammation in the knee but this treatment may have diminishing returns with repeated use.

How quickly can I return to normal activity after the injection?

After resting for 20-30 mins post injection you should be able to return to walking straight away, however we recommend refraining from physical exercise for the first 3 days after your procedure.

As with any invasive joint procedure, it is recommended to avoid strenuous activity (e.g. tennis, jogging or long walks) during the first few weeks after the injection and begin rehabilitation activities when possible.

We recommend you avoid driving for the rest of the day and arrange transport from a friend or family member prior to your appointment.

Should I be having physiotherapy whilst I recover from the treatment?

Structured rehabilitation will aid recovery following your treatment with Arthrosamid. Please discuss this with your doctor during your appointment.

Can I receive Arthrosamid treatment in both my knees?

It is possible to have both knees treated with Arthrosamid but your physician is best placed to decide the time period before the treatments.

What is the cost of a private Arthrosamid Injection at KIMS Hospital?

Private Arthrosamid injections at KIMS Hospital start from £3,315. You can pay for yourself or use flexible payment plans to spread the cost.
