Professional Profile

Dr Thompson is a Consultant in Sport, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine. He is the Club Doctor at Brentford Football Club and works as a Consultant in Community NHS musculoskeletal Clinics in Surrey Heath and Croydon. He is recognised by all major insurers.

Dr Thompson enjoys treating musculoskeletal and sport-related injuries in both children and adults. He has a keen interest in injuries related to sports, including acute, overuse and chronic injuries. These often involve the soft tissues (i.e. muscles and tendons), bones and joints. He is also passionate about treating those with musculoskeletal problems in the general population; including osteoarthritis.

He has experience in an array of sports, including working as a Field of Play Team Leader at the London Olympics; the Glasgow Commonwealth Games; Chief Medical Officer at the World Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow; tournament doctor for the LTA and for England RFU. He has also worked for multiple football teams and associations, including England FA and Chelsea FC.

Dr Thompson has an ultrasound scanner in clinic to diagnose pathology and to perform ultrasound guided injections when required. He also has access to most other investigations, including on-site MRI and CT scanners. Following an assessment and appropriate diagnosis Dr Thompson will offer a management plan which is likely to involve liaising and working closely with other healthcare professionals, such as physiotherapists and orthopaedic surgeons, as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
