Lung function test FAQs
What can I expect from a lung function test?
The test is performed by one of our specially trained Respiratory Physiologists. Prior to your test, you will receive any pre-test instructions so that you are ready on the day.
Upon arrival, you will have your height and weight measured to gain predictive values for each of the tests. This allows your Physiologist and Consultant to compare the lung function results with that of others the same age, height and sex.
The lung function test generally consists of one or more tests that involve breathing into a machine through a mouthpiece or tube for a period of time, whilst wearing a nose peg. This will help us to determine the size of your lungs, the capacity and speed that air can be inhaled and exhaled, and how efficient your lungs are at exchanging gases.
What happens if my results show an issue?
Your GP or Consultant who referred you be able to discuss the results with you to determine your next steps for treatment or further testing.
