What is included in a prostate health check?
Your journey with us is straightforward and designed for your reassurance:
- Initial appointment: You will meet with a nurse for a PSA blood test and urinalysis.
- Results review:
- If your PSA is below 2.5 ng/ml, you may be referred for a bi-parametric MRI scan, a short and accurate test to check for any abnormalities. (no contrast dye injection needed)
- If your PSA is above 2.5 ng/ml, or if your prostate is enlarged or symptomatic, you will usually be referred for a multi-parametric MRI scan for a more detailed assessment.
- Consultant referral: If your MRI or PSA results suggest a concern, or if you have bothersome urinary symptoms, you will be referred to a consultant urologist for further investigation and treatment options.
- Telephone consultation: You will have a GP telephone consultation to discuss your results, provide reassurance, and agree on next steps.
- Follow-up or discharge: If no concerns are found, you will be discharged with peace of mind about your prostate health.
