ECG test
A simple and painless ECG test to determine your heart’s rhythm and electrical activity. An electrocardiogram (ECG) is often used to investigate symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath and palpitations and can help determine underlying conditions with your heart. Depending on your needs, the ECG test can be taken whilst you are resting or on an exercise treadmill.
Prompt diagnosis to speed up your treatment journey
Your Consultant may suggest an electrocardiogram after an initial consultation, to assist with a diagnosis, or following treatment to analyse how well you have received it. The first step is to have an initial consultation with a Cardiologist at KIMS Hospital.

Electrocardiogram (ECG) FAQs
Where can I have an ECG?
We offer ECGs at KIMS Hospital in Maidstone. If you’re a private patient, you can choose where to have it even if your initial consultation was at our other location. This might be because we can offer you an appointment sooner, or you may find it more convenient to switch between our facilities, depending on where you live and work.
Why do I need an ECG scan?
Your Consultant may suggest an ECG scan to diagnose the causes of symptoms such as chest pain and palpitations, or if there are concerns of underlying heart conditions.
Alternatively, an ECG may be suggested to see how well you have responded to some medication or treatments.
Does it hurt?
An ECG is a simple, non-invasive test that measures your heart’s rhythm using electrodes that are placed onto the chest. The test does not cause any pain, although you may feel some slight discomfort as the electrodes are removed.
What if my ECG scan detects an issue?
Your Consultant will be able to discuss any concerns from the results of your electrocardiogram and will help you to arrange any further consultations or treatment if needed.
