The Mayor of Maidstone Visits KIMS Hospital to Champion Community Wellbeing and Local Healthcare Services

KIMS Hospital was delighted to welcome the Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Martin Round, on Tuesday 17th March for a special visit focused on community wellbeing, patient care and the future of local healthcare services.
The visit gave the Mayor an opportunity to meet staff, tour the hospital’s facilities, and learn more about the important role independent healthcare providers play in supporting the local community alongside the NHS.
With community wellbeing a key theme of his work as Mayor, Cllr Round’s visit to KIMS Hospital reflected his wider commitment to promoting health and mental wellbeing across Maidstone. Throughout 2026, he has actively supported local mental health initiatives, including attending the Mid Kent Mind 12-hour Spinathon, visiting Involve Kent, and using his “Mayoral Monday” series to raise awareness of mental health and community support services.
Showcasing high-quality healthcare services in Maidstone
During his visit, the Mayor explored KIMS Hospital’s state-of-the-art facilities and met both clinical and non-clinical teams involved in delivering high-quality patient care every day.
The tour highlighted the hospital’s commitment to accessible healthcare services in Maidstone and the wider Kent community, focusing on the importance of providing patients with timely access to high-quality care, as well as the role independent hospitals can play in supporting wider healthcare provision across the region.

The visit also showcased the wide range of services available at KIMS Hospital, and the organisation’s continued focus on delivering an excellent patient experience. Staff shared insights into how they support patients throughout every stage of their healthcare journey, from the specialist cardiology services to advanced imaging and diagnostic facilities. These services help patients to access expert care closer to home, while supporting health and wellbeing across the local community.
A visit reflecting growth and community partnership
Following the hospital tour, Cllr Martin Round joined members of the leadership team for lunch in the hospital’s Bistro, before marking the occasion by planting a magnolia tree in the hospital’s garden – a meaningful symbol of his visit, and of the shared commitment to the wellbeing of the local community.
The Mayor was joined by Executive Chairperson Prema Subaskaran, who commented:
“We were delighted to welcome the Mayor to KIMS Hospital, and I was so pleased to hear about his long history of involvement with the hospital, going back to its inception. We are all so happy that he was able to plant a tree in the hospital grounds as a reminder of this very special visit and the strong relationship we have with the local community which we serve.”
KIMS Hospital’s commitment to community-focused care
At KIMS Hospital, supporting the health and wellbeing of local people remains central to everything we do. Visits such as this are a valuable opportunity to share how our teams continue to deliver outstanding care, invest in healthcare services, and strengthen connections with the communities we serve across Maidstone and Kent. We are proud to support and align with initiatives that promote health and wellbeing across our community, and we thank the Mayor for taking the time to visit KIMS Hospital.
