Professional Profile
Dr Sriramulu Tharakaram originally qualified in India from Madras Medical College, where he trained in Dermatology and General Medicine. Following his qualification, he was appointed to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Leprosy Wing, closely linked with the Medical Research Council (MRC) in the UK. During this period, he contributed to clinical research, including involvement in Clofazimine trials for leprosy.
He later moved to the United Kingdom, where he undertook Registrar posts in Hull, Glasgow and Birmingham, gaining experience in genitourinary (GU) medicine. He subsequently completed a year of specialist training in Mohs surgery at St John’s Institute of Dermatology in London. Dr Tharakaram went on to work within the NHS for over 25 years as a Consultant Dermatologist at Tunbridge Wells.
He has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of dermatological conditions, including eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, acne, urticaria, genital dermatoses, mole assessment and skin cancer. He is also highly experienced in dermatological surgical procedures, including cryotherapy, diagnostic skin biopsies, surgical excision of skin lesions, curettage and cautery.
