Professional Profile
Dr Melia has a wide experience in acute general medicine and clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. In Hepatology, his research interests were in liver malignancy and portal hypertension. He was involved in some of the pioneering research on variceal sclerotherapy. Dr Melia is a very experienced Endoscopist and offer a wide range of therapeutic endoscopy. He is experienced in oesophageal and gastric outlet stenting, variceal banding, PEG insertion and oesophageal dilatation.
Dr Melia provided the ERCP service at Darent Valley Hospital with another colleague until December 2022and was on-call for Upper GI Bleeding Endoscopy.
He is a skilled Colonoscopist, offering a full range of therapeutic interventions. In Hepatology, he has a particular interest in haemochromatosis and operated the Darent Valley Hospital Hepatitis C and B anti-viral treatment programme. Dr Melia is a Member of EASL.
Dr Melia was the Trust’s Upper GI Cancer Clinical Lead and the Kent & Medway Upper GI Cancer TSSG Lead, and he sat on the South East London OG and HPB ACNs and was the DVH Gastroenterology Clinical Governance Lead.
