Professional Profile
Dr Gautam Kulkarni is passionate about paediatrics and is pleased to see children for a specialist opinion from birth to 18 years of age.
He began his medical training in paediatric immunology and allergy. During his early career he worked as a doctor on high altitude Himalayan treks and was involved in the retrieval of critically ill children to paediatric intensive care units.
His specialist clinics focus on allergy and neurology. He is happy to accept a wide range of paediatric referrals where a GP would prefer a specialist opinion. More recently he has developed a special interest in adolescent health, helping to coordinate both the physical and emotional wellbeing of young people. He does not perform developmental assessments or undertake diagnostic evaluations for ADHD or ASD.
Dr Kulkarni also has a strong interest in healthcare innovation and patient safety. He has contributed to the development of Isabel Healthcare, a clinical decision support system designed to reduce diagnostic error, and is an Innovation Fellow from the NHS Institute of Innovation and Improvement.
He is the editor of Recent Advances in Paediatrics, a highly regarded publication that keeps paediatric consultants and trainees up to date with developments in the field.
