If so KIMS Hospital has a rare and exciting opportunity to join our Quality, Governance and Patient Safety team as our Deputy Head of Quality and Governance.

Job Summary:

The Deputy Head of Quality and Governance role is a significant position in ensuring the quality of the organisation’s services. You will be supporting the Head of Quality, Governance and Patient Safety in developing, implementing and monitoring an effective and compliant system of working. This will ensure robust governance which is in line with national best practice and aligns across all the hospital sites.

You will be leading patient safety and regulatory activities and responsibilities, be knowledgeable and highly experienced in delivering excellence in healthcare, and passionate about driving the quality and governance agenda forward to promote safe care, positive patient experiences, and effective risk management.

Role Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure delivery of the rolling programme of governance activities in line with hospital requirements.
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of effective working relationships, communication, co-operation and engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide scrutiny and challenge of highly complex, technical and sensitive clinical and non-clinical information.
  • Analyse complex information from incident investigations (including PSII investigations) and audits and working with colleagues to support the establishment of appropriate action plans to bring about positive change.
  • Leading the management of incidents and the sharing of learning from these incidents.
  • Overseeing the Complaints, Patient Experience and Claims functions ensuring quality and timescales are met and that learning is shared and improvements identified. 
  • Risk register management including supporting clinical teams in identifying and managing risks.
  • Encouraging a culture of openness and transparency that responds rapidly to potential or actual failures.
  • Direct line management of the Clinical Governance Team.

Qualifications, professional experience skills and knowledge

As a experienced manager, you will be working across the organisation with considerable freedom to act and an ability to apply policy and procedures to different situations. You will also be a strong team member who is able to gain trust and support from colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.

Essential

  • Extensive experience in quality, regulatory compliance, clinical governance, risk, audit, complaints and patient experience.
  • A clear understanding of healthcare specific assurance and improvement tools.
  • Able to analyse data, and devise reports.
  • Experience of the relevant regulatory systems and compliance, including CQC etc.
  • Demonstrable previous success in delivering comprehensive governance agenda within a complex organisation.
  • Experience of leading and building highly effective relationships within your team and across organisational boundaries.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent in depth training and experience in governance, risk and compliance.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

Preparation is key

Before your interview, take the time to research your potential new employer, finding out about their company values and what you might expect working there. Have a clear travel plan ready for the day of the interview, allowing extra time for possible delays - being punctual will allow you time to gather your thoughts and check your notes. Dress smartly and make sure you are well presented. In no circumstances should you be chewing gum and your mobile phone should be switched off.

Take reassurance from knowing that your interviewer can often be as nervous as you. Be polite, honest and open, maintaining eye contact with them. Talk as clearly and confidently as you can and if you don’t understand a question, ask for clarification. When answering, focus on positive experiences and be prepared to go into detail about your previous positions and your future aspirations.
